Time flies quickly when you are having fun – and I must say that the experiences that I have had since I launched Elizabeth Michael way back in March 1991 have been at once challenging, exciting, occasionally nerve wracking, but always exhilarating and stretching.

I have grown as an individual and as a businessperson at the same pace as the development of the business; our fates have been interlinked for fast approching three decades and I am as totally and emotionally linked as if we were married – which in a sense we are!

John Hyde and Elizabeth Michael – the happy couple!

Elizabeth Michael is so much more than a business to me; it is the very embodiment of all that I believe that a great customer facing recruitment consultancy should be with its’ focus aimed sharply at producing outstanding quality and first rate service in the Nottingham area engendering much loyalty from our clients, temporary workers, job–seekers and of course, and very importantly, my own colleagues, many of whom have worked with me for years.

Elizabeth Michael has become a local success story – we are proud to be associated with a vast number of Nottingham’s employers, from new and emerging businesses to the very largest corporate organisations in Nottinghamshire and especially proud and privileged to be entrusted with the incredibly important task of seeking employment for people leaving education and entering the world of commerce for the first time and to supporting people as they continue their career paths and journeys.

By the way, I use the word “privilege” quite deliberately, because I believe that providing people with expert, sound career guidance and support and ultimately a new job is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling aspects of our work.

As you may have already deduced, at Elizabeth Michael we feel very passionately about our vital role in the Nottingham employment market!

And I also feel just as proud of my colleagues – the level of dedication and professionalism that they display every day never ceases to amaze me. Their sense of purpose and determination to deliver outstanding service and results for our jobseekers and employer clients ensures that Elizabeth Michael continues to grow towards our indelible goal to be regarded as the recruitment consultancy of choice for any individual or business involved in recruitment and employment in Nottingham.

There are three loves in my life – firstly and most importantly my family - my wife Jo and daughters Lucy and Livvy; secondly Elizabeth Michael of course (!), and thirdly a certain football club that I will not name for fear of alienating any potential candidate or client! (Curious? - click here)

We really strive to provide a very personal and consultative service, and I am equally keen to receive your candid feedback – so please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail: if I can be of assistance to you or you have any suggestions to make that will improve our service offering.

Elizabeth Michael has been “Engaging People” in Nottingham for nearly thirty years and we look forward to continuing to be viewed as “Engaging” for the next thirty!

This is not just our strap line it is also a reflection of who we believe we are and who we aim to be in the future!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website - I feel sure that you will enjoy the experience of working with Elizabeth Michael.

Hi, my name’s Selena,

When I started here we were still in the thick of the recession and although we kept ourselves very busy, it could be a bit of a hard slog at times.

I have to say that the momentum has really picked up recently and my job is ever challenging, fulfilling, joy filling and sometimes even tear jerking at times!  I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best clients, candidates and colleagues.  I am looking forward to what the next few years will bring…

I am a Nottingham girl born and bred. I broke away at 18 to attend Sunderland University where I studied Humanities (Sociology & History)

After graduating I moved to Surrey where I found myself starting to make inroads into my student debt by working in a call centre.  I became adept at handling all types of calls and was quite quickly promoted to become a Team Leader of a small Telesales department.

Sadly I found myself in a redundancy situation in 1998 but out of the adversity came the start of my career in recruitment.  Recruitment incorporates all the things I enjoy; Sales, Customer Service, People Management & HR.  I love meeting people; finding out what motivates them and helping them to find the perfect job.  Here at Elizabeth Michael I am able to indulge in all these things and would go so far as to say that I am a very happy lady.

Last summer I met the man of my dreams. His name is Harry, and he is a handsome devil! I spend the majority of my free time with him now .... he is a Puggle (beagle pug cross)
Since meeting Harry life has changed a lot. It's all about early mornings, long walks and lots of nights in snoring on the sofa (him not me!)

I look forward to meeting you soon.

Hi, I’m Jazz,

Having moved to Nottingham from Cambridge where I spent my formative years, I can now say that I see Nottingham as home

Having completed my degree in Politics at the University of Sheffield I decided to go travelling and explore the world. Upon my return I worked as a Recruitment Consultant in London where I had the pleasure of working with some fantastic people, both clients and candidates alike.

I absolutely love the fact that the Recruitment Industry allows me to fulfill my inquisitive and yes, sometimes talkative, nature - meeting candidates and clients on a daily basis.
My journey with Elizabeth Michael started after a couple of in-depth conversations with John Hyde and Selena Allwood after which I was delighted to be offered and accept a position within the Permanent Division.

When I am not working I enjoy to playing and watching sport. The Olympic success of the Great Britain’s winning Women’s Hockey team has spurred me back into the sport! I am also a huge fan of the mighty Harlequins Rugby Club.  I enjoy watching space and wildlife documentaries despite being scared of 99% of animals.  As you will have seen earlier I love travelling and am currently planning my next trip to Krakow.

I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you.

Hi, Olivia here, and I am part of the Permanent Division at Elizabeth Michael. I began my career a week after I had handed in my dissertation at the University of Birmingham- talk about hitting the ground running!

After studying English Literature with Creative Writing and having three years almost entirely to myself, I became available for work and extremely eager for something busy, challenging and fulfilling. I can safely say recruitment encompasses all of this and every day brings fantastic new opportunities for us, for our clients and for our candidates.

I have always lived in Nottingham, however it wasn’t until I moved away to university that I realised how much I love this city!

Nottingham has an amazing wealth and variety in terms of entertainment, culture and, of course, employment! And I’m fortunate enough to be a part of the best team that dedicate themselves daily to finding the people of Nottingham, and the surrounding area, their dream job.
I have thoroughly enjoyed becoming adept to handling the many different situations we find ourselves in, as well as getting to know our clients and candidates in order to marry the two successfully.

When not in the office, you can find me at the gym where I love to lift weights! I am a huge foodie and have a passion for all things health and fitness. As boring as it may seem, I like to finish off my day with a strong cuppa and a good book!

Thank you for being here, I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi I’m Claire!

My recruitment career started when I was a carefree young lass at the tender age of 23. I was made redundant and walked into an agency in Nottingham looking for help (as you do!) I ended up working for that agency as a resourcer and the rest is history!

Before Elizabeth Michael, I was in a 12 year stint in Education recruitment where I built up a great reputation for myself, and worked my way up from Consultant level to the dizzy heights of Branch Manager level. Education has been all I’ve known, but after years of 7:30am starts and a twitch in my right eye, I decided I needed another challenge – that’s when I found Elizabeth Michael. I’ve joined the very successful perms team, and I hope that I will add to the success and contribute to the hard work that happens every day!

When I’m not at work, I enjoy going to see my favourite bands play – I’m obsessed with Biffy Clyro and Foo Fighters. I also love watching movies, eating out and spending time with my friends. I’m happily married to Damon and we are the proud parents to Bear the chihuahua!

Thanks for reading, I look forward to hearing from you!

Recruitment Assistant

Hi I'm Alisha - the recruitment assistant for the permanent division!

After three incredible, fun-filled years at the University of Manchester I returned back to my hometown of Nottingham with a very cloudy picture of what I wanted to do with my career. Although I graduated with a degree in Pharmacology, I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue a job in that industry and by the end of the summer (and the end of what was left of my student loan!) it was time to get serious about finding a job and seek some advice on what I could do next.

After being recommended Elizabeth Michael by a friend, I came in and registered as a temp. The very next day I got a call and was asked to temp within the Elizabeth Michael office itself as the administration assistant for the permanent division. After a couple of weeks in the role and a couple of lovely discussions with Selena Allwood, I was offered a permanent position and my journey in recruitment started from there!

When I’m not at work I enjoy going to the gym, spending time with my friends and family, exploring new walks in the countryside and finding old and new music to listen to! I have a massive love for interior design and travelling to interesting places – one day I hope to fulfil my dream of visiting South America.

Thank you for reading!

Hello I’m Hannah

I am part of the fabulous Temporary Team at Elizabeth Michael.

After completing my A levels I was unsure of what career I wanted to pursue but decided to start a Marketing & Advertising course at Lincoln University, after a short time I found that the course wasn’t quite right for me and left to find my dream career (I wasn’t really sure where to find it). I started a role in Recruitment and haven’t looked back since. It is extremely satisfying, exciting and very rewarding and also allows me to talk all day which I am very good at!  I am incredibly proud to be part of the Temporary Team at Elizabeth Michael.

In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, travelling (Rome is next on my list), Cooking, long walks in the countryside, Pub lunching and spending time with my friends, family and Fiancé Jake.

Thank you for reading; I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello there! I’m Zach.

I moved to Leeds to study Sport and Exercise Science at university but after a year and a half I realised it wasn’t the course for me - I think my love of all things basketball throughout school and college had something to do with it.

I decided to put all my energy into the hospitality industry and soon discovered a passion for cocktails. I already had generous amounts of drive, confidence and dedication to learn; just throw in a few high end cocktail bars, a splash of fine-dining restaurants, and a whole lotta’ London and you’ve got yourself an exciting career!

After several years in the capital, I decided I wanted to explore more of this ginormous world we live on; so I purchased a ridiculously large backpack, a plane ticket and a working holiday visa in Australia. I was only expecting to be down under for a year before moving on - little did I know I would fall in love with the country (continent!), the people and most of all Melbourne. It’s an absolutely amazing part of planet Earth and I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

However after nearly 3 years halfway around the world, it was time to come home for some quality family time. I had definitely been missing my parents, 3 older sisters, and niece - who was missing her favourite (and only) uncle; we’re quite a tight knit bunch!

Feeling slightly disillusioned about what to do next, I was pointed towards Elizabeth Michael by my oldest sister who had previously used the company for temporary work, eventually resulting in a permanent placement. However 24 hours after my registration with EM I found myself in front of John Hyde, Managing Director, discussing a career in recruitment I never knew I wanted. After a lengthy, revealing chat I was offered a role here and the rest is history.

I look forward to getting to know your story...

Hello, I’m Jem and I am a Nottingham born and bred gal.

I grew up in Linby Village with my Mum, Dad and two younger sisters.  After finishing my education at the National Academy, I went on to study Travel and Tourism at the Adams College, choosing this subject as it is a particular passion of mine.   After qualifying I sought gainful employment and somehow ended up working in the public sector for the NHS as a dietetics assistant, a far cry from travel but none the less a very rewarding post that helped me mature into the world of “real” adults!

After a number of happy years with the NHS, I still had that passion to see the world.  In 2014, I finally took the plunge and moved to Australia with my Fiancé.  We were fortunate enough to be able travel the length and breadth of this beautiful Country.  I count the 12 months we spent there as one of the best years of my life so far.  It also taught me that family is everything and I came back to the UK with plans to marry the love of my life and settle into a more dynamic career.

It was during my time in Sydney that I successfully worked for a Global Recruitment Consultancy for six months.  Upon my return I eagerly sought employment within this private sector and was delighted to join the team at Elizabeth Michael.  A job I love and that is where you will find me today, totally hooked and always willing to go that extra mile to match the perfect candidate with their perfect employment.  Why not take the plunge like me and see what the future holds for you, I am at the end of the phone ready and eager to help you make it happen.

Sally Hosken

Senior Administrator

Phone: 0115 979 9806

Hello - I’m Sally, from the beautiful county of Cornwall originally, but have not been there for some time as I lived abroad for nearly ten years, and now live here in the lovely city of Nottingham.

I have worked as part of the Elizabeth Michael Team for well over 10 years, and I have to say, it has been quite a journey!

I originally joined as part of the Marketing team and as much as I found this work rewarding, I also discovered that other aspects of the business particularly intrigued me. I found myself compelled to offer to help in administration tasks across the office, becoming involved in the advertising of roles, credit control and anything else that I could try my hand at.

Eventually, I realised that I so enjoyed this new aspect of my role that I was delighted to be offered the opportunity by our Managing Director, John Hyde, to join the Administration Team on a permanent basis. A few short years down the line, I am now heading up the Finance/Administration Department and loving every minute.

After working in the Sales and Marketing arena for more years than I care to recall, I thrive on the constant progression and demands of the role.  I have learned many things during my time at Elizabeth Michael, not just the skills and abilities necessary to efficiently run the Finance/Administration department here, but on a personal level as well.  Quite honestly, I didn’t know I was grown-up enough to shoulder the responsibility that John had trusted me with!
It’s amazing what one can achieve when a little faith has been placed in them.

When I am not at work, after a workout in the gym I like to relax with a glass of wine, play my Xbox One or PS4, go to the cinema and try local restaurants with my fiancé, Patrick.

I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Hello, I’m Sam,
I am a Nottingham girl through and through, and as they say there really is no place like home.

After leaving University, you could say I got stuck in a rut! I had no clue what to do next. From leaving school I had worked in a fashion retailer part-time basis but after University this became my full-time role and I progressed to the role of supervisor.

After a year’s supervisory experience, I felt I was ready to move on.

A friend suggested I approach Elizabeth Michael; I was invited to their offices to register where I was asked if I would be interested in working with the Elizabeth Michael team, specifically in the Administration and Support division. Following a meeting with John Hyde and Sally Hosken I was absolutely over the moon to be offered the position as this was an offer I simply could not refuse.

I am still learning something new every day and best of all no two days are the same. Looking back a few years ago a career in recruitment would not have crossed my mind – I am very happy I took the plunge!

When I'm not sleeping, or eating, I love spontaneous outings, spending time with my family, holidays and long country walks. Also, I consider myself a TV/film junkie and a huge animal lover.

Thank you for reading, I look forward to helping you.

Hi, I'm Jess

A countryside raised girl with a love for the great outdoors and all animals.

Upon leaving sixth form, I knew university wasn't the path I wanted to go down so I got myself a job in high-end retail. Meeting and helping new customers everyday was something I really enjoyed, but after a lengthy discussion with my partner, we realised we were ready to start new careers in a new town, and we chose Nottingham.

After he quickly secured a new job, I moved with him in search of a new career for myself, first stop was the local recruitment consultancy - yes you guessed it – Elizabeth Michael.

After meeting with the consultants to discuss my ambitions and options, I was introduced to Joh Hyde, with whom I spent a couple of hours finding out about Elizabeth Michael, and John finding out about me.  I was delighted when he offered the opportunity to work as part of the Elizabeth Michael Team and instantly knew it was a company I’d love to work for.

In my spare time I love to explore the country and try new food. I have three crazy border collies that accompany me on my adventures, who also like to eat my new food!

I look forward to meeting you soon!
